The latest Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) Bulletin #23 is now online!

The PSHCP Administration Authority has issued Bulletin #23 to inform plan members that the new contract to administer the PSHCP was awarded to Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada. The bulletin continues to detail the latest developments regarding the issuance of the PSHCP benefit card and describes the upcoming positive enrolment process.

Public Service Health Care Plan Contract Award

On September 24, 2009, Public Works and Government Services Canada awarded, on behalf of the Government of Canada, a six-year administrative services contract for the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) to Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada.

The contract introduces new and enhanced services in line with current industry standards for health benefits plans. It will bring about better and timelier service for Plan members and improvements to plan administration and benefits management.

The new contract will provide electronic claims processing for pharmacy benefits (e.g. prescription drugs and selected medical supplies) with the use of a PSHCP benefit card. You and your dependants (eligible family members) will no longer have to pay the full amount of your pharmacy benefits up front and then file a paper-based claim for reimbursement. With the new system, the pharmacist will process the claim electronically at the time the prescription or medical supply is purchased, and you will only pay your portion of the cost.

A transition period of approximately 14 months is required for Sun Life to implement the processes and systems needed to meet electronic claims and other service requirements. Towards the end of the transition period, Sun Life will launch an enrolment process at which time you will be required to enrol yourself and your dependants. This will provide Sun Life with the necessary information to begin electronic claims processing and to receive the PSHCP benefit card.

During the transition period, claims and payments will carry on under the terms of the existing PSHCP contract. Please continue submitting claims to Sun Life using the existing Public Service Health Care Claim Form.

To be kept informed about progress on Sun Life's transition to the new contract please visit the Treasury Board Secretariat Web site, the PSHCP Administration Authority's Web site and this Web Portal. Additional information will also be available through Sun Life communications, the PSHCP Bulletin and internal communications from your employer.
